1925 to 2007.   Enlisted into the Gordon Highlanders but transferred to the Royal Engineers Postal Section after basic training. Served in the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, Christmas Island, Australia and Cyprus. Commissioned in 1966. Retired in 1980.

"Charlie was a career soldier and I met him when I was, 23185992 Sapper Perriton, a National Serviceman in 1956. He was a Staff Sergeant then. We served together in the British Forces Post Office 170 on Christmas Island in the Pacific. He was the man I stayed friends with for 50 years and he was the man who, by his example, gave me high standards of morals and behaviour that stood me well both in my private life and civilian career. The final act for me was to deliver his obituary at his funeral service, it was my privilege. He was not only a gentle man but also a Gentleman."  Daniel Perriton, 2011.
